Dear Lucky Dog Family,

This week has been a crazy week -- and it's only Wednesday! As you may know, we spent Labor day coordinating a last minute transport for nineteen dogs evacuating from the path of Hurricane Dorian. Now, a nineteen dog transport may sound like old hat for Lucky Dog, but consider this:

  • We did not know there was a possibility of a transport until 10pm on Sunday.
  • Because we have no shelter or facility of our own, all the animals on the van needed a confirmed place to go by 6am Monday when the van departed. That's less than 12 hours to find placement for 19 animals!
  • Included in this group were ten adults and two litters of puppies.
  • We organized live coverage with two news stations and coordinated 3 radio interviews.
  • MOST IMPORTANTLY, we got 19 dogs to safety and created space at the shelter for those evacuating from the coastal areas to have a safe place for their pets to go.

Being able to turn on a dime. Respond to whatever comes up. Jump into action when there are animals in need. This is what Lucky Dog is all about. It is what makes us unique. What makes us Lucky Dog.

What's even more amazing is that we are not done yet! Even knowing that the storm is headed towards South Carolina, a team of Lucky Dog volunteers is headed down to Florence even as you read this email. We're headed down to make sure they have what they need. To assist in any way we can, and to bring back another van full of animals once the storm passes.

Because Team South Carolina is family. And, Lucky Dog takes care of our family.

We are so appreciative of the support we have received thus far. If you want to help with our Hurricane Relief efforts, please consider a donation today. Any amount helps!

Thank you on behalf of all our Lucky Dogs and Cats!

Volunteer Spotlight: Georgia Wood, Volunteer Adoption Coordinator

I started volunteering with Lucky Dog Animal Rescue to become more involved with a rescue similar to the ones who saved my family's animals as a child. As a dog adoption coordinator, my schedule is broken up into calls with potential adopters, sharing information about these dogs online and advocating for them at weekly events. At the heart of the Lucky Dog community is a strong adherence to our mission. This shared goal drives our staff and volunteers, who consistently shatter my expectations of what is possible to help these animals in need. I would definitely recommend volunteering to anyone interested; there is nothing like swapping out a new collar for a rescue dog about to go to their forever home!

Share the Luck: Tony!

Tony is a 3-year old lab mix looking for love. This active boy loves socks and towels and practices fetch, sit down, paw/shake, wait and place every day so that he can be the best boy for his forever family. His favorite thing is going for walks, and lounging on the couch at the end of the day. Could he be the one for you?
