Dear Lucky Dog Family, It's hard to believe it's March already. And, with March comes Kitten Madness. What many people don't realize is that there is actually a "kitten season" -- a time of year when cats begin to have litters again after a slow down during winter months. That is why you may not see as many young kittens at Lucky Dog -- or other rescues -- during the winter months. That is going to start changing. And soon. We already have two nursing momma cats in our care in South Carolina. Within the next few weeks, we will be seeing tiny kittens showing up at our shelter partners. These are the most fragile of rescues. Ones that need our help more than ever.

This is a new area for Lucky Dog. Over the past 2 years, we've been slowly building our capacity for cat and kitten rescues. Our partnership with the Crumbs & Whiskers Kitten Lounge has enabled us to really ramp up those efforts. But, tiny kittens and nursing moms cannot go to the Lounge. They need fosters. And, they usually need them fast. This month on March 21st, Lucky Dog will be holding our very first Kitten Shower at the Kitten Lounge. This fun evening will be an opportunity for our community to come together to celebrate all our cat team has accomplished and to learn how YOU can help us save even more. Even if you cannot attend, you can contribute to the cause. You can check out our online wish list to help with supplies, sign up to foster or volunteer, or provide financial support. Any bit of help goes a long way and makes it possible to save even more lives. We can't wait to see you!

Volunteer Spotlight: Debi Presslaff -- Driver, Pup Party Volunteer and Handler I can honestly say Lucky Dog has changed my life! When my husband and I relocated to Washington, DC, I began looking for opportunities to volunteer in the community. My daughter and son-in-law had just adopted "Skippy" (a Jack Russell mix) from Lucky Dog, and I knew I wanted to be a part of an organization that helps rescue pets find their forever homes. I am in awe of the fact that Lucky Dog is made up of such amazing and dedicated people who appreciate their volunteers. As a driver/handler at adoption events and corporate pup parties (so much fun!), I can truly say it's been a wonderful experience.

Share the Luck: Rhonda and Vicky! Meet Rhonda: Rhonda is a 3-year old black and white cat looking for a home to call her own. Rhonda gets along well with dogs and other cats, is good with kids, and enjoys playing with toys and eating extra kitten treats. When she is not initiating cuddling, you can find her hanging out in a small, quiet corner enjoying a cat nap. Meet Vicky: Vicky is a 4-6 year old chihuahua/schipperke mix full of personality. She is good with other dogs and kids, and is looking for a home without many stairs due to old hip and back issues. Vicky has so much love to give ... could she be the one for you?
