Dear Lucky Dog Family, It's hard to believe we're on the 3rd day of June. It seems both like yesterday and like a lifetime ago that our Sundays were spent at large adoption events and our transports from South Carolina occurred every other week. Now our events are virtual, and our South Carolina transports come in weekly to try to keep up with demand for animals. The world has turned upside down, and across the nation, people are relying on their pets to help ground them. To keep them sane. To make them whole. We are incredibly proud that Lucky Dog has been able to help so many animals and so many families during this time. But, we couldn't have done it without you. Our fosters. Our adoption coordinators. Our volunteers. Our donors. Our adopters. Our FAMILY. Not all of the animals we rescued in the past 3 months have been "easy." Some have had serious medical needs. Yet, despite a global pandemic and despite the economic uncertainty facing nonprofits like Lucky Dog and people like you, we have pushed forward to ensure these animals are getting the care they need. In fact, just yesterday, sweet Gingy was discharged from Friendship Hospital for Animals after having bilateral cruciate repairs done. Without these repairs, Gingy would continue to be in pain for the rest of her life. Simple things like sitting and walking would get increasingly difficult until she simply could not do them. But, not anymore. Not with you behind her. Two days ago, gentle Tilly went to the orthopedic specialist to have her hind legs looked at. She's not quite 3 months old but has an unusual issue with the joints in her back legs. Some might give up on her with an uncertain path forward -- without a clear reason for why she limps around. But as long as she can walk without pain, as long as she continues to act like a happy kitten, we will keep fighting for Tilly. One reason we are able to go above and beyond for our Lucky Dogs and Cats are our Lucky Stars -- our monthly donors who provide a reliable source of funding that make our work possible. Knowing we can depend on regular monthly donations enables us to make difficult medical decisions with the certainty that funding will be available. Allows us to make decisions based on what is best for the animal rather than what is the least expensive course of action. Regardless of whether you give $5/month or $50/month, every monthly donation is absolutely critical to our lifesaving work. The past months, and in particular the past few days, have been extremely difficult. Extremely scary. Extreme in so many ways. We at Lucky Dog are proud that we're able to do our part to make this world a slightly better place. Provide some level of comfort and some level of love. YOU make this work possible. And, I could not be more grateful. Thank you on behalf of all the Lucky Dogs and Cats, |
