Dear Lucky Dog Family,

Who could forget last September when our transport van broke down on the side of the road with fifty animals being evacuated from the path of Hurricane Florence. We learned in an instant how truly amazing the rescue community is when more than 50 people came to our aid within minutes. Fifty people who were not affiliated with Lucky Dog in any way, shape or form.

Our dogs and cats made it to DC safely. Our team in South Carolina escape the hurricane's wrath. But we were not out of the woods. We knew our transport van was on borrowed time and was not up to bi-weekly trips bringing loads of animals up the coast from South Carolina to DC.

Lucky Dog's original transport van.

So, once again, we put out the all for help. And, YOU -- our Lucky Dog Family -- stepped up and answered. This past weekend, our brand new transport van made its first trip, loaded with 47 animals making their freedom ride.

Lucky Dog's brand new van can fit more than twice as many animals!

We are so grateful to all our generous supporters who helped us with this big investment. Who continue to make it possible for us to continue saving so many lives each and every week.

And, of course, there are next steps. We wouldn't be Lucky Dog if there weren't. We are working on raising money to get our logo on the van, to put in shelves to secure the crates safely, and to put in an air system that ensures the dogs and cats don't overheat once the temperatures start to rise. if you would like to help with this efforts, please donate today!

With YOUR SUPPORT and this van, we can save so many lives!

As always, thank you on behalf of our Lucky Dogs and Cats,

Volunteer Spotlight: Lauren McCarty, Master Handler

I volunteer as a Master Handler to support the dogs that need an advocate and a cheerleader. Every dog is great in their own way, and I like to find out what makes these dogs special and ultimately help to find the perfect family. Working with Lucky Dog gives me an awesome feeling of community and I know what I'm helping with is going to make a difference for the dogs (and cats) that we rescue!

Share the Luck: Catherine and Crystal!

Affectionate and active 7-month old domestic short haired cats, Catherine and Crystal have lived with cats and dogs and would make a great addition to any family (they can be adopted either together or separately). They are the last of 10 kittens surrendered to us at just 5 weeks old, and we know that their perfect forever home is out there!

Trainer's Corner:

February is usually one of the most challenging times of year for dog parents -- when outside there are freezing temperatures but your furry friend still wants to play! Mental enrichment is so important for the behavioral health of our furry friends, and will help create a happy, content and tired dog.

Pet Health and Safety:

Dr. Meaghan Ropski, DVM discusses the Fear Free Practice Certification process and why pet parents should use Fear Free Certified practices. Understanding the process helps pet parents know what to look for at their
